Privacy under attack? Stop-and-frisk vs. NSA surveillance

Posted on 7:43 AM by Unknown
As Americans, we each have a guaranteed right to privacy. The online legal site FindLaw explains it this way: “The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects personal privacy, and every citizen's right to be free from unreasonable government intrusion into their persons, homes, businesses, and property – whether through police stops of citizens on the street, arrests, or searches of homes and businesses.”

That seems plain enough, but how one interprets the word “unreasonable” provides ample opportunity for mischief, as well as for good law enforcement.

As for good law enforcement, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has credited the City’s stop-and-frisk policy with helping drive crime to record lows since the policing policy was implemented in 1994, with the murder rate falling by an astounding 82 percent by 2009.

New York’s stop-and-frisk policy seeks to prevent crime before it happens by deploying officers with pinpoint precision to critical street segments in high-crime areas where they interact with individuals displaying suspicious behavior: they approach, question, and sometimes frisk the individuals. That practice has led to fewer people, such as members of street gangs, risking arrest by carrying a weapon on their person, and with fewer gang bangers carrying weapons, there are fewer spur-of-the-moment shootings in New York, and correspondingly fewer deaths.

You might think that, given the obvious level of success in reducing the murder rate in the Big Apple, such a policy would fall outside the Fourth Amendment’s proscription against “unreasonable” searches. But you would be wrong, according to U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin, who believes that the policy indeed does violate the Fourth Amendment protection.

Mayor Bloomberg believes that the judge's decision will cause a reduction in the use of stop-and-frisk, which would reverse crime reductions and make his city a more dangerous place. And data indicates he is correct. In 2011, guns were used in 61 percent of all homicides, but in black neighborhoods 86 percent of young black males died from gunfire. Stop-and-frisk reduced the total number of deaths by reducing the number of guns on the streets.

The challenge to the policy arose because officers stop minority residents at a rate disproportionate to their number in the general population. But those stops are not disproportionate to the minority resident population in the crime-ridden neighborhoods or disproportionate to the number of crimes minorities commit in those neighborhoods.

As we have seen recently, there is the possibility that authorities may lose perspective and become abusive in the use of policies like this one, but supervisors are charged to competently manage their operation. And due to the depths of its crime problem when the policy was implemented, New York police applied stop-and-frisk more aggressively than other cities. But whether or not the City is too aggressive ought not be decided without considering its unique circumstances and surprising rate of success in reducing murders.

An opposite approach to systematically and thoughtfully targeting areas where crimes mostly occur and populations that most often commit them like New York City is doing is the blanket, indiscriminate, suspicion-less spying on telephone, email and other private communications and activities of millions of Americans by the National Security Agency.

The government’s spying on Americans is so egregious – eavesdroppers broke privacy rules or overstepped their legal authority thousands of times every year – it’s no wonder the administration wants to arrest and try Edward Snowden for making the information about its spying public.

Where New York police might appear to have been over-aggressive in implementing stop-and-frisk, the federal government’s policy itself is over-aggressive by design. Surely, observers familiar with the Fourth Amendment’s restrictions on searches would be unable to conclude anything other than that NSA spying is precisely why there is a Fourth Amendment.

As reported in The Washington Times, “A Top Secret internal NSA audit, leaked by Mr. Snowden to freelance journalist Barton Gellman earlier this summer and published online by The Washington Post Thursday night shows that, in the 12 months prior to May 2012, there were 2,776 incidents of ‘unauthorized collection, storage, access to or distribution of legally protected communications’ — those between Americans or foreigners legally in the United States.”

“Most were unintended,” according to The Post. “Many involved failures of due diligence or violations of standard operating procedure.” Even if the problems were unintended, sloppiness certainly is no excuse: The infringements are no less wrong, no less a breach of individual privacy, and no less intolerable.

The larger the scope of a program, the greater the chance that something will go wrong, and the more opportunities there are for something to go wrong. Congressman Peter King (R-NY) defends the program, saying that the situation is being blown out of proportion, that the rate of error is miniscule.

Maybe so; however, since the NSA program seeks to find a few fake grains of sand on a beach, and involves millions upon millions of records. For every million records, ten thousand mistakes can be made, affecting the privacy of ten thousand Americans, and the success rate is 99 percent.

Even if such gargantuan programs are run efficiently and competently, they are examples of unjustified government excess, and should not be allowed.

Moderates Need Not Apply ... J. D. Longstreet

Moderates Need Not Apply
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

******************

I have no clue, at this writing, whom the next republican  candidate for President of the USA will be.  But I do know this:  for the GOP to even be in the running, their candidate had better be conservative -- and conservative to the core.

Christie and Brown can save their time and money.  Rubio has a snowball's chance in Hades.  He's finished so far as the conservative core of the GOP is concerned.  The immigration debacle showed him for what he really is and conservatives do not like being duped.  He's done.

If the GOP insists on offering up another moderate he/she will go the way of Dole, McCain, and Romney.

Ted Cruz?  I don't think Cruz is qualified to be President of the USA.  I mean by the circumstances of his birth, understand.  I think he'd probably make a hell of a president, but I don't expect he'll ever see the inside of the Oval Office -- except as a visitor.

OK.  I can see some of you think that just because the democrats have an illegal poser in the office as US President that the republicans can do the same thing.  Well, dear reader, you are W R O N G!

I am in my eighth decade of living in the United States and one thing I have learned about US politics -- above all others -- is this:  There are two sets of morals and two sets of laws governing the democrats and the republicans.  Basically, it works like this:  Anything the democrats can get away with is moral and legal.  Everything the republicans do is, at best, questionable and probably immoral AND illegal.  If you keep that in mind you will seldom go wrong in 21st century America.

If you have been fooling yourself into believing the democrats are going to allow a conservative candidate with an actual chance to beat Hillary to get his name on a ballot for President of the US then please, allow me to disabuse you of that deeply mistaken belief.  It will not happen.

Had the GOP had the intestinal fortitude God gave a gnat, Obama would have been challenged and his name scrubbed from the list of candidates before the 2008 election. But they didn't - and we now have a communist centered government in the (temporarily) United States of America.

A couple of things on the 2016 election:

One: Hillary will be the Democratic Party candidate.

Two: She will win.

(A hurried disclaimer -- or caveat -- is in order, I believe:  "...  barring an act of God.")

No matter if the GOP runs a moderate or a conservative a host of GOP voters WILL stay home.  That is a given.  The party is that riven ... and don't forget, the GOP is leaderless, too.

Then there is this:  The GOP has already lost the 2016 Electoral College vote.

Myra Adams , in a column at The Daily Beast dot com, says the GOP’s biggest problem is that Democrats start with 246 electoral votes.

The American electorate spends little (if any) time trying to decipher and understand the electoral college and how it is the Electoral Vote that decides elections for President in America.

There are a total of 538 electoral votes.  The candidate receiving 270 of those votes wins -- period!  And yes, it is possible, indeed it has happened a number of times, that a candidate can win the popular vote amongst the electorate and STILL LOSE THE ELECTION -- BECAUSE HIS OPPOSITION WON THE 270 ELECTORAL VOTES.

When you seriously analyze the electoral vote and add the number of electoral votes from the "blue" states you will quickly see that the democrats begin each Presidential Election cycle with over 90% of the electoral college already assured.

Ms. Adams explains it this way:  "After totaling the electoral votes in all the terminally blue states, an inconvenient math emerges, providing even a below average Democrat presidential candidate a potential starting advantage of 246. Here are the states and their votes:

CA (55), NY (29), PA (20), IL (20), MI (16), NJ (14), WA (12), MA (11), MN (10), WI (10), MD (10), CT (7), OR (7), HI (4), ME (4), NH (4), RT (4), VT (3), DE (3), DC (3).

Let me repeat, if only for the shock value: 246 votes out of 270 is 91 percent. That means the Democrat candidate needs to win only 24 more votes out of the remaining 292. (There are a total of 538 electoral votes.)"
  SOURCE:  http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/08/18/can-a-republican-win-270-electoral-votes-in-2016-or-ever.html

Ms. Adams states that 63% of Americans favor dumping the Electoral College and going solely with the poplar vote.  I'm not so sure about that, but that is a topic for another day.

Ms. Adams says:  "To change from the Electoral College to direct voting would require a constitutional amendment. But it is highly doubtful that such an amendment would gain any traction in Congress since Democrat leaders have grown fond of the severely slanted Electoral College and have no incentive to make such a change. (Yes, Democrats also remember Al Gore in 2000, but that was ancient electoral math.)"  SOURCE: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/08/18/can-a-republican-win-270-electoral-votes-in-2016-or-ever.html

So.  You can see an awful lot of work remains for the GOP to field a winning candidate for 2016.   It will be even more daunting if, as I suspect, Hillary is the dem's candidate.

Conservatives should not fool themselves.  Fielding a moderate candidate will not be a winning answer nor will fielding a candidate open to legal challenge in the courts as to his qualifications for the office of President.

The GOP needs leadership and it needs it badly.

This is a defining moment for the GOP.  I am of the opinion that should the republicans go with another moderate candidate, they will create a third party as a result.  That "third party" could be an entirely new party, or -- it could turn out to be the Republican Party itself!

Elysium: scifi socialism wrapped in contemporary issues

Matt Damon reached for the stars in his new scifi flick Elysium. Instead he fell to Earth, with a loud thud, as the story line was revealed. Set in the year 2154, with a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles as its backdrop, Damon must fight his way through two worlds for his own survival and the rest of humanity. Wealthy elites live on a gigantic space platform named Elysium, while the rest of Earth’s population lives in the ruins below. Twenty-second century Los Angeles is populated with millions of Hispanic individuals who have reclaimed a city once under their auspices. Very little work is available except for a few giant corporate structures managed by the Elysium hierarchy. Damon’s female interest has a child who is in her last days of life. With our hero facing his own demise from an industrial accident, the clock is ticking for both to get to Elysium where cures are available.  Numerous obstacles are placed in the path of the protagonist Damon before he can achieve passage for himself and others to the elites floating abode. Jodi Foster is engaging as the Defense Secretary in Elysium. Contemporary social themes overburden this film’s  futuristic settings begging the question, did the White House edit this film. A war between the rich and poor is continually emphasized. Climate change is creatively worked into some of the scenes. Yet, the most provocative theme is sophisticated medical services are only ordained for the rich, sound familiar. Director Neill Blomkamp, denies in numerous interviews, that Elysium was intended to showcase America’s current problems. Any other interpretation would be antithetical to the evidence before the audience. Damon’s performance is flat, as though he was forced to perform in a venue out of his league. Half-hearted direction makes the interplay between the actors lame and uninteresting. As an avid fan of scifi, I would wait until this one comes to cable. It has very little future. Rugged Individualism And A Free America ... J. D. Longstreet

Rugged Individualism And A Free America
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

***************

"Rugged individualism" is recognized today as some sort of mental illness in 21st century America.

Look. I am not a "togetherness" type personality.  I was reared by parents who insisted that I learn to fend for myself at an early age.  I was given my emancipation from my parents (by my parents) at what is thought of today as the "tender age" of sixteen.  I'll never forget that day.

We had a family conference on the back porch of our little country house.  Corn and sugar cane grew right up to the edge of the lawn.  In the distance one could hear the grunting of the hogs and in the near distance the clucking of the chickens happily pecking small grains of sand from the loose soil to aid in the efficiency of their gizzards.  It was the sound of breakfast being produced!

It was, for this ole country boy, the ideal setting to be told that today you are free ... free to carry responsibility for yourself... for myself.  I would make my own decisions with input from my parents only upon request.  It meant, also, that I would bear the consequences of decisions made with little or no experience on the matter being decided upon.

Frightening?  Damned right, it was!  Did I make mistakes?  You'd better believe I did, lots of them, and every single one a learning experience.  I carry many scars from those early mistakes -- my gray hair not the least of those reminders.  Many of those scars are still red, ugly, and extremely tender -- even today.

But -- I LEARNED!

Ultimately, I learned that in the end, everyone is accountable to themselves and responsible to (and for) themselves for the host of so-called "screw-ups" we all make.

As a teenager, I learned to choose my friends and associates wisely.  I didn't have a posse and I didn't become a part of anyone else's posse, either.

My best friend from those teen years -- is still my best friend to this day.  We were then, and remain today, independent thinkers.  We often disagree with each other. And that's fine. Our friendship transcends disagreement.   Besides, it seems to me, friends OUGHT to allow independent thinking amongst them.

I learned that one should not allow oneself to be overly influenced by what others say and do. It's OK to look and listen and evaluate.  But in the end, one has the responsibility to form his or her own opinion and be ready, willing, and able to defend that position when, and if, it becomes necessary.

As you can see, nothing I learned is earthshaking or even worthy of note -- except -- that I learned them at an unusually early age.  Well, not so unusual for my generation, but simply unheard of in today's society.

That early emancipation created an "individualist."  We are better known today as "weirdos" or worse.

There was a time in America when individualists were prized.  No longer.

Today in a communist leaning America, an individualist is an impediment to the so-called "greater good."  See, we have a way of saying things like: "Wait a minute!"  "Whoa!"  "Not so cussed fast!"  And the MOST dreaded -- "Let's think about this for a moment."

With our Neo-Leninist/Communist President herding America from one manufactured crisis to another in order to keep the populace off balance, off kilter, and vulnerable to frightening scenarios designed to elicit support for his communist agenda for America, the LAST thing Obama needs is for some NUT JOB, like yours truly, to insist that we "wait a minute," "think about this for a moment," or some such objection.  The very last thing Obama and his henchman need is for Americans to take time to actually THINK about what is going on in America today.

America was founded on and by individualism.Though in modern America you won't find much individualism expressed, at all.

"America was built on the social-political ideals of Individualism; the philosophy of self-reliance, in the face of peril, and in the name of  freedom. Our communities were forged by rugged personalities, adventurers and entrepreneurs, determined to secure their freedoms in a new land, far from the archaic ideas of statism that were popular throughout Europe. Indeed the Virginia Company of London, which founded Jamestown in 1607, the first permanent new-world English settlement, was an entirely entrepreneurial venture." SOURCE:  http://www.nationofchange.org/essentiality-individualism-modern-america-1354804096

That which is now described as the "soft despotism" of the American political left has driven America into a sort of collectivism.  Wholly un-American, it is the new or "NEO-Leninist/communism" we referenced earlier.  And it is smothering America and driving her into third world country status at an alarming speed.

In an article at The American Thinker, Daren Jonescu states the following:  "The fundamental battle to be waged concerns nothing less than the nature of man, and the moral implications of that nature.  If public disapproval of particular Obama policies is to become a lasting movement toward societal renewal, then the conservative's primary objective must be the restoration of American individualism." SOURCE:  http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/03/on_restoring_american_individualism.html#ixzz2brz3AVsB

Mr. Jonescu continues:  "Those who wish to subvert the American republic, and to undermine its founding documents, have always understood that the primary obstacle is ethical individualism."  SOURCE:   http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/03/on_restoring_american_individualism.html#ixzz2bs0z5mwY

Look.  All the talk about reclaiming America, about restoring America, is all for naught -- IF we do not restore individualism FIRST.  To be honest with you -- I don't know how we can do that.  It takes generations to produce self reliant individualists.  Besides, I don't think America likes individualist anymore.

From individualist to globalist Americans have forsaken that which made them -- and then made them great.

Our ship of state now sails toward the rocky shoals with the white flag of surrender snapping from her mainmast.  The remains of her sun whitened carcass will lie scattered on the rocks as a warning to other nations not to stir the course America chose.   But, alas, if history is any predictor of the future, that warning will go unheeded.

Consider The Source ... J. D. Longstreet

Consider The Source
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

************************

The Mainstream Media’s assault on evangelical Christian Conservatives is going to backfire on them. Some feel it has already begun.  Consider the number of major news outlets in financial trouble today.

First of all, it is wise to understand that the mainstream media in the US is the voice of the Democratic Party .... the propaganda wing of the Democratic Party, if you will.    You must keep that in mind to be able to interpret what they disseminate as “news.”

The MSM is out of touch with real Americans, especially real Americans who subscribe to the Christian faith… and to parse it even more… real Americans who subscribe to the evangelical brand of the Christian faith.  This disconnect has existed for decades now.  And yet, the MsM continues to flail about either not recognizing the problem, or intentionally ignoring it - even to their own detriment.

If the MsM had even the least understanding of the Christian faith, especially the Evangelical Christian faith, they would know that perfection is not required to be a Christian.  Making the attempt IS required, however.

The one tenant of the evangelical Christian faith that runs through their faith, as a binding thread, is that piece of scripture that says:  “For ALL have sinned and fallen short ….”  It is the commonality of ALL Christians. All Christians were sinners before becoming Christians and, guess what… they remain sinners afterwards!  The difference is “forgiveness” of those sins, AND, the sinner’s never-ending quest to live a life as nearly in accordance to the teachings of Christ as a human being, with all the frailties of humanity, can ever hope for.

The hallmark of the evangelical Christian is their ability to instantly forgive the transgressions of others upon the transgressor recognizing his/her sins, confessing them, and seeking forgiveness.  The arms of the evangelical church are flung wide open to accept, support, and even nurture those fellow “imperfect” Christians who have “fallen short”.  It is a hallmark of the faith.  To condemn the transgressor as somehow, worse than the rest of us Christians, is nothing short of hypocrisy… and hypocrisy is frowned upon as an arch sin, if there were, indeed, such a thing.

But you see, the Leftists and the MsM, which of course, is one and the same thing, have bought into their Hollywood version of Evangelical Christianity and they have come to actually believe their version is the true version.  It, apparently, has never crossed their minds that they could be wrong!  On a scale of one to ten, with ten being the worse degree of “wrongness”, then the MsM and the Democratic Party would be stuck on ten!

There is nothing quite so amusing as to watch the finger pointing of the left as it tries, vainly, to justify it’s own short comings by pointing to the short comings of others.  They have honed it into a fine art. Having done so, they are totally unaware that it portrays them as kindergarten children seeking the acceptance of the adult in charge. But, finding an adult amongst the leftists is a near impossible task.  They are few and far between.  The end result is the increasing degree of pathos on the left.  They have become, absolutely, pathetic.

The Left, meaning the Democratic Party, and, of course, the Mainstream Media, have all made a devastating error in judgment by assaulting Christian conservatives. For in doing so, they have assured their own elitism, locked-in their self-perceived perfection, and validated what all us “bumpkins” out here in flyover country already knew… and that is… there are none quite so fallible as those who perceive themselves infallible.

So, we leave the MSM on the sidelines of this life to sneer and point fingers and catcall in the vain hope of drawing our attention away from their mistake riddled, pitiful existence, as morality judges.  They have become so captivated by their passion, that in their zeal they have forgotten their very own mantra: “Do Not Judge”!

The scriptures teach us to “Judge not, lest ye be judged”.  The Great Teacher, Himself, the Rabbi, the Christ, also told us “Ye shall know a tree by the fruit it bears.”  In other words, “recognizing by simple observation” is NOT judging.  Therefore, this humble scribe, in order to cover his bases, asks your forgiveness for observing that the MsM is, once again, acting as the elitist hypocrites we already know them to be. That is, of course, a simple observation on my part. That said… alas, we must forgive them, too.

Left Heaping Bovine Scatology On NC Voter ID Law ... J. D. Longstreet

Left Heaping Bovine Scatology On NC Voter ID Law
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

*****************************

I'm a Tar Heel and I am fed up with the unadulterated bunk, and that's what it is -- BUNK -- being spread by the Democratic Party and the Mainstream Media about NC's newly passed Voter ID law.

At first their idiocy was almost funny, but no more.  Now it is vicious and hurtful and condescending and designed to show North Carolina in a bad light and I will not sit idly by and allow it to pass without challenge.

Leftists have come to the WRONG state looking for a fight,  for it is here, rest assured, that you WILL find one -- and find one quickly!

The first thing you need to know, dear reader, is that the democrats are out of power in North Carolina after having had their way and ruling the state for a hundred and thirty some odd years. And it's not looking REAL good for them in 2014, or 2016, either.

THEY ARE LIVID!

They feel betrayed by the Tar Heel voters and they are flailing about much as a drowning man will do when faced with imminent death.

The displays of their infantile behavior is an embarrassment to a conservative state.  And, YES, North Carolina IS a conservative state.  Even the bulk of democrat voters in NC are conservatives.  Heck, even my own Congressman is a conservative democrat!

They are also, more or less, powerless and scared witless now that the GOP is in charge.   The dems are worried that the GOP will use the very same tactics they, themselves, used -- AND honed to a fine edge (and a fine art) -- over the nearly century and a half of creating a Democratic Party Fiefdom here on the Mid-Atlantic Coast.

You also need to know that we have a mainstream media here in North Carolina allied closely with the National MsM which, as everyone knows now, is the propaganda wing of the Democratic Party.

North Carolina is also the home of the university known as the "Vatican of Liberalism" in the USA.  Their journalism school produces some of the finest liberal-minded media people in the world.  They march out each spring determined to save the world FROM itself and FOR progressivism/socialism and, well, just plain ole Marxism.

So, now, along with Texas, NC has a huge target painted on its back and is preparing to defend itself from all the Democratic Party venom  that is already spewing from that leftist political "brood of vipers."

Oh, for the record -- there really are only 50 states in the union, contrary to what our President might think, and 34 of those states already have some type of Voter ID laws.  That is nearly three-quarters of the states!

So, what sort of ID must one have to vote in North Carolina in 2016?  "The bill will require voters to show photo identification -- a driver's license, passport, veteran's ID, tribal card -- beginning in the 2016 elections. Student IDs are not an acceptable form of identification."  SOURCE:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/12/north-carolina-voter-id_n_3745253.html

Oh, and the HuffPo did thoughtfully add this:  "The bill does provide for a "free ID" to be offered at DMVs, though the state estimates that between 203,351 and 318,643 voters registered in North Carolina lack ID, and that providing them with one would cost $834,200 in 2013 and 2014, and $24,100 every two years after that."

I'd like to thank the HuffPo for including the paragraph concerning the free Voter ID's provided at taxpayer expense to those who don't have them.  Many reports have left that little bit of important information out of their reporting.  I can't imagine why?  Must have something to do with the template of their narrative.

"The bill also reduces early voting by a week, eliminates same-day registration, ends pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds and a student civics program, kills an annual state-sponsored voter registration drive and lessens the amount of public reporting required for so-called dark money groups, also known as 501(c)(4)s."  SOURCE:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/12/north-carolina-voter-id_n_3745253.html

Nearly all the reports fail to mention that if a voter turns up at the polls without a valid Voter ID, he/she will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot, and they almost always fail to mention that the hours available to cast an early ballot remain the same as they are currently, and voters will have ten days in which to vote early.

Personally, I don't think the law is nearly strong enough.  Heck, I'd like to see requirements that a voter must have an IQ of over room temperature, be able to read and write, be able to prove citizenship in both the USA and in North Carolina, be fluent in English, cast all ballots between sunrise and sunset on one day -- Election Day.  And that's just off the top of my head.

In my, ahem,  highly exalted, unassailable, opinion, casting a ballot is not nearly difficult enough.  Men and women died to preserve that privilege for us. To lie, cheat and/or steal in an election is blasphemy, or ought to be.

The lawsuits coming North Carolina's way were expected.  That accounts for the law being so carefully written.

When listening to (or reading) all the polling out of the Tar Heel state purporting to show how unpopular the new Voter ID law is, first we ask that you determine who the polling company is, whether it leans right or left, and who paid for the poll.  You will be surprised.

And remember this, dear reader.  When a majority of the voters of North Carolina elected a majority republican General Assembly (state legislature) and then turned right around and elected a republican governor, that meant the voters wanted a change.  That is exactly what Tar Heel voters did.  And, so far, the majority of North Carolinians like it.  I'd go so far as to say a heck of a lot of NC democrats like it, too, but as the democratic party is an authoritarian organization, those democrats supporting the new Voter ID law will be compelled to hold their peace and keep their own counsel.

Either elections have meaning or they don't. If they have no meaning -- then what's the point?

Look, I am convinced that anyone who really is interested in the future of North Carolina -- and America -- will WANT to vote.  And, if they really WANT to vote they will make sure they have the proper identification.  It ain't rocket science.

Consider this:  " ... some seem to think that asking for a photo ID for voting purposes is somehow a violation of civil liberties or an attempt to prevent people from voting. The really interesting part is that it is usually liberals claiming that it is conservatives attempting to prevent people from voting when a photo ID law would apply equally to both liberals and conservatives. Heck, they would apply equally regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, weight, sexual orientation, income, health, disability, race, wealth, intelligence, marital status, attractiveness, employment status and everything else. Is there something wrong with preventing the dead, the illegal aliens, the young (under the age of suffrage) and other non-qualified people from voting ... "  SOURCE:  http://www.usmessageboard.com/politics/212534-list-of-things-that-require-photo-identification.html

Indeed!  What IS wrong with wanting, yea, demanding fair and honest elections?  And who, save for those whose intentions are unscrupulous, unlawful, and those who are morally defunct, would dare oppose a form of identification by which the people of a state can be sure the person seeking to cast a ballot is who he/she says he/she is -- and -- is, in fact, qualified to vote.

Everyone, and  I mean, EVERYONE knows there is far more to the democrat's opposition to voter ID than their plaintive cries of disenfranchisement.  It is pure superficial sympathy.

They are crocodile tears designed to elicit an empathetic response.

It is simply another tool they use in manipulating the "useful idiots" who parade around on sidewalks allowing themselves to be humiliated and arrested -- making fools of themselves while the democrat bosses receive the accolades of the party hierarchy.
No.  Here in North Carolina, this is about power:  Those who won it, those who lost it, and those who want it back.

It's about power.  It's ALWAYS about power.
